The other culprit to common problems opening the door is the spring inside the interior door handle. The handles for standard and custom (aka deluxe) interiors have an internal spring that is supposed to reposition the handle in the proper "park" position after pulling it to open the door. If the internal spring is broken, it can't return the handle to the proper position and, in turn, the door latch assembly actuator rods won't allow you to unlock the door from the outside.
