The solution we came up with was elegant in its simplicity. The automotive equivalent of a diaper was zip tied around the breather. This would catch any errant oil and keep it off the headers. After this event we will need to design a proper breather system, but for the moment it did the trick. To fix the driver’s side cover we “borrowed” an oil cap from James Shipka’s Chevy truck.
