Second Annual Holley LS Fest - Lightning Strikes Twice

|
The Detroit Speed crew is... The Detroit Speed crew is what we call hardcore. When the slave cylinder in Stacy Tucker’s '69 started acting up, the crew, including Mark Bowler, tossed the Camaro on jackstands, dropped the trans, and made the repairs to get Stacy back on track, where she placed Fourth in the final autocross shootout. New Camaros, old Camaros,... New Camaros, old Camaros, and everything in between could run at the event; the only stipulation was that it had to be LS powered. We spied this early fourth-gen launching hard, and even though we didn’t catch the guy’s name, we thought the shot was worthy of some ink. Nick Licata was trying to... Nick Licata was trying to lead a double life. On one hand, he wanted to run the autocross and try to make it to the final shootout, but he also wanted to practice running the 1320. This meant he was constantly swapping out his back rollers. Here he catches a little air going over the course’s bump on his way to a best lap of 44.73 seconds. On the drag strip, he couldn’t find the right combination and kept bogging off the line for a best run of 13.468 at 104.08 mph. Hazen, Arkansas’ Ronnie Hackelton... Hazen, Arkansas’ Ronnie Hackelton had a little luck in his final run against Shawn Calabrese in the 5th-Gen Challenge. He broke out with a 10.464 against his 10.50 dial in, but Shawn’s red light gave Ronnie the win. Consistency got Shawn Calabrese... Consistency got Shawn Calabrese to the Fifth-Gen Challenge semi-final round where he ran a 12.045 against his 12.0 dial in for the win. He came all the way from Orlando, Florida, and typically runs in the top of the field. Mike Norris, of Norris Motorsports,... Mike Norris, of Norris Motorsports, was busy jumping from car to car to work his tuning magic. Here, he’s strapped into Kyle Tucker’s ride for some on-the-fly adjustments while in the autocross staging lanes. And now for something completely... And now for something completely different. This ride, dubbed Crawlmaro, sports a turbocharged LS engine and 42-inch tires. We were highly disappointed that the Synergy Green Camaro homage (built by Essentially Off Road) didn’t make it onto the autocross course. Mark Golovin came down from... Mark Golovin came down from Aurora, Illinois, to run on Saturday and wasn’t afraid to hang it out on the soggy autocross track. He managed a best time of 48.7 seconds in his ’00 SS. Not bad considering the conditions. Saturday morning had a little... Saturday morning had a little rain, and while it did shut down the drag strip, it certainly didn’t get in the way of the autocross action. Eric Cederberg drove his ’10 Camaro from Florida and wasn’t about to let a little moisture dampen his fun. Look for a feature on this fine fifth-gen in a future issue of Camaro Performers.
