If any Camaro epitomizes the “Don’t judge a book by its cover” axiom, then it’s Mike Dusold’s rat-rodded ’67 Camaro. At first glance you might think it’s a low-buck ride, but the truth is that Mike spent some big coin in the important areas first. The result is a rough car full of polished performance. The suspension is built around a Detroit Speed Inc. hydroformed front subframe and QUADRALink rear system. Huge Wilwood binders reside inside Forgestar 18x11 and 18x12 wheels. While the bodywork is a bit rough, the patina’d satin paint and vintage-vibe graphics bring the whole package together. In fact, most people tell Mike to leave the exterior of the SS alone. We’d have to agree.
Under the hood is one of the biggest surprises: a twin-turbo 427ci LS engine. Filled with robust internals, it kicks out more than enough grunt: 900 rear-wheel horsepower and a nearly equal amount of twist. And since this is a driver’s car, a Tremec T56 Magnum six-speed backs the mill up. Mike told us the interior will eventually get a few finishing touches, like carpet and door panels, but right now it has what’s needed to rip around or down a track.
The main cockpit additions are a Corbeau seat and harness system to secure the driver, a rollbar was installed “just in case.” There’s also a Dakota Digital dash insert to track the vital signs of the healthy LS and to help keep Mike from inadvertently hitting triple digits when cruising down the highway.
Mike built the car at his shop, Dusold Designs, and even though the Camaro just recently hit the road, it’s already a solid performer in the handling department and it knocked down a 10.98 e.t. at 135 mph blast at the dragstrip.
So, the next time you line up to a seemingly ratty-looking ride, keep in mind that the owner’s priorities may have been placed elsewhere.

You probably won't find a bigger Camaro junkie than me, I love'em, but when I see one like this finished in flat black, to me it's a rat rod. Sure, it's not rusted and broken, but to me it is. I meant the owner no disrepect, and again, I'm certain this guy spent a fortune on the car and I'm certain it's worth a ton of money, but they did ask for my rating and I provided it. It's not for me.
Thats not a ratrod. Not even close.
