The Butcher's New Baby
Ohio-based Glenn and Linda Butcher have introduced something new for 2013. The husband and wife team, widely regarded as top racers within the Top Sportsman category, have unveiled an all-new 762ci nitrous-injected Garret Race Cars-built '69 Camaro. For the team, which is active within all the prominent Top Sportsman circuits (NHRA, ADRL, IHRA), the new Camaro is a replacement for another Garret-built Camaro that they campaigned very successfully for five seasons. Their new '69 makes extensive use of titanium and carbon fiber, thus making it much more like a Pro Mod/Pro Nitrous car rather than a traditional Top Sportsman entry.
North Carolina is home base to a terrific '91 Camaro RS campaigned by the father and son team of Gary and Brandon Peterson. Their GT/FA-classed car features a 1972 model 350ci engine that was originally built by Scott Craft (Wilson, North Carolina) in 2008. Peterson Motorsports purchased the car in 2010, updated it, and since then have been highly active within both the NHRA and IHRA Super Stock wars on the East Coast. The car is a multiple event winner in IHRA divisional competition, finished First in IHRA Division 1 points last year, and has twice (2011 & 2012) qualified for their prestigious Tournament of Champions season showdown event.
NOCO Energy Flagship
Buffalo, New York's Dan Flanigan is using a spectacular, new '13 Camaro to help promote his sponsor, NOCO Energy Corporation. Dan, who is a Fuel Sales Manager for that company debuted his new G-Force Race Cars-built car during the spring of 2013 replacing a Pontiac Firebird. While fully competent for potential Pro Mod class racing, Flanigan is focused on running the car exclusively as a Top Sportsman car this season using a 680ci Jan-Cen Racing Engine program, with a performance target of 6.6 seconds and 210 mph. Flanigan's car will wear a special paint scheme in 2013 to help celebrate the 80th anniversary of NOCO Energy Corporation.
Field of Dreams Camaro
The father and son team of Frank and Marcus Allen run a very impressive '69 Camaro Super Stocker based out of Colorado. Their Jail Break Racing team car was rescued as it sat idle in a farmer's field in 1991 before being taken to Quick Performance (Ames, Iowa) where it became a race car. It was originally run in Super Street (10.90) before being converted to a Super Stock car. The present-day version (SS/D) features a 396ci engine program from Laniers Speed Shop. Driver Marcus shifts the power through a four-speed Jerico manual transmission. To date the car has run in the high 9.6-second zone. However, the team reports that a new engine will be introduced by the fall of 2013. Expectations with the new bullet are 9.4-second elapsed times and 140-mph trap speeds.
