New ZL1 and 1LE Parts Give Camaros an Edge on the Track or Street

Chevrolet Performance has taken factory-engineered performance for the Camaro to the next level with new, race-ready parts to help owners build more competitive cars with greater capabilities on road courses and autocross tracks. They include components from the high-performance Camaro ZL1 and the road racing-oriented Camaro SS 1LE package, highlighted by the ZL1's strong rear driveline and larger brakes, as well as the 1LE's thicker stabilizer bars and other suspension parts.

When matched with series-mandated safety equipment and racing tires, the new parts significantly increase the cornering capability, driveline durability, and overall performance of '10- 13 Camaro SS and V-6 models. All of the new parts are exclusive to Chevrolet Performance and are based on competition-proven production components—and all are available from the new 2013 Chevrolet Performance catalog, which is available from Chevrolet Performance retailers or online at chevroletperformance.com.

"Road racers and autocrossers should look to Chevrolet Performance as their first stop when building a competitive, durable Camaro for the track," said Jim Campbell, GM U.S. vice president of Performance Vehicles and Motorsports. "Our new roster of parts has everything they need and all of them are based on the production parts that were tested on racetracks around the globe and validated to standards unmatched in the aftermarket industry."

The new ZL1 rear driveline system, for example, is the strongest independent rear axle option available for the Camaro. To withstand the heavy loads of repeated hard launches and high-load cornering its 9.9-inch rear differential is mounted in a robust cast-iron centersection (versus the aluminum centersection in SS and V-6 models). It also features asymmetrical halfshafts—a 60mm hollow shaft on the right and a 33mm solid shaft on the left. The different torsional stiffness rates of the shafts work in conjunction with the limited-slip differential to minimize the chance of wheelhop at launch. The setup also helps provide sure-footed traction when exiting corners at wide-open throttle.

From the 1LE package—which was designed expressly for competition such as SCCA's Touring Class—comes a new "track pack" system with thicker stabilizer bars and other components providing the cornering capability that enabled the production Camaro SS with 1LE to circle Virginia International Raceway in less than three minutes.

For Camaro SS and V-6 models, new ZL1 brake kits offer competition-ready stopping power, fade resistance, and durability with large rotors and the world-class performance of Brembo multi-piston calipers.

Holley LS Fest Dates Announced

Holley has announced September 6-8 as the dates for Holley LS Fest 2013. This will be the fourth year that Beech Bend Raceway in Bowling Green, Kentucky, has been the venue. LS Fest remains the only event where fans can experience autocrossing, a countryside cruise, drag racing, drifting, a mobile dyno, engine swap challenge, show-n-shine, and speed-stop challenge all in the same place. The overarching rule to any of the events is that the vehicle must be powered by an LS engine to participate.

Each year a "Grand Champion" is announced at LS Fest. This award goes to the driver that performs the best across not only the autocross, but drag racing, the speed-stop challenge, and the show-n-shine. It truly showcases the individual with the most well-rounded vehicle.
