Chevrolet Performance Offers Camaro Rolling Chassis
Chevrolet will produce a limited number of NHRA-certified Camaro rolling chassis designed for drag racing that provides racers with a professionally assembled, painted body and chassis ready to be finished. Buyers need only to add their engine, transmission, and other drivetrain components.

Priced at $55,000, each specially numbered chassis is assembled by hand at the same facility that constructs Chevrolet's COPO Camaro production race cars.

Many of the components required to complete the transformation into a full race car, including crate engines, racing engine components, electronics—controllers and harnesses—and more, are available direct from Chevrolet Performance (www.chevroletperformance.com).

Customers can call 800.306.3005 to order a Camaro rolling chassis. The call center will send purchase certificates for the limited number of rolling chassis to be constructed, and customers will take their certificate to the Chevrolet dealership of their choice to complete the sale.

Each rolling chassis is fitted with an NHRA-approved rollcage and other safety equipment, along with NHRA-approved racing chassis and suspension components, including brakes and solid rear axle—minus the third member. Bogart racing wheels mounted on Hoosier tires are also included.

All will come in Summit White, with a production Camaro hood and SS grille, window glass, headlamps, taillamps and more. Inside, racing seats, a production-style instrument panel, steering wheel, racing switch panel, door panels, headliner and black carpeting are included. Basic body and chassis wiring is built into the rolling chassis, but it does not come with an engine harnesses or a battery.

Chevrolet Performance's entire range of high-performance and racing crate engines are available to power the rolling chassis, including the three 2013 COPO LS-family engines, which were developed for NHRA Stock Eliminator classes. They include a 350-cubic-inch engine rated at 325 horsepower; a 396-cubic-inch engine rated at 375 horsepower, and a 427-cubic-inch engine rated at 425 horsepower (PN 17802825). Supercharged crate engines based on the 2012 COPO Camaro program are also available, including a 327-cubic-inch engine with a 2.9L supercharger (PN 17802826) and a 327 with a 4.0L blower (PN 17802827). The 350 and 396 engines will be available later this year.

Camaro SS Joins Dubai Police Fleet
Powered by a 6.2L V-8 engine, the Camaro SS boasts a power output of 426 horsepower and a maximum torque of 567 Nm (418 lb-ft). With a top speed of 250 kph (155 mph) and acceleration of 0-100 kph (62 mph) in 4.7 seconds, the Camaro is the perfect addition to Dubai Police force.

Buti Saeed Al Ghandi, managing director of Al Ghandi Auto and John Stadwick, president and managing director of GM Middle East, handed the keys of the Camaro SS to Dubai Deputy Police Chief Major General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina in a ceremony at police headquarters. In return, Stadwick received a special engraved plaque from the Dubai Police.

“The Camaro is highly regarded around the world. It is the ideal car for Dubai Police as we look to upgrade our vehicles to meet the Emirate's world renowned standards in safety and security,” said Dubai Deputy Police Chief Major General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina.

“We are delighted to be the first to respond to the Dubai Police's request for assistance in adding high-performance patrol cars to their fleet. We felt that the Camaro would be the right vehicle for their needs,” said Buti Saeed Al Ghandi, managing director of Al Ghandi Auto, which is General Motors' dedicated Chevrolet dealer partner in Dubai.

“We are confident that the Camaro's ability to respond rapidly, by virtue of its high-performance V-8 engine, coupled with its practical suitability for Dubai's roads and ease of servicing, will make it an ideal patrol car for years to come,” he added.

The Chevrolet Camaro has been a huge success in the Middle East sports car market. It was named Best Muscle Car in four consecutive years from 2009 to 2012 by leading automotive publications. The Camaro ZL1 was awarded “Muscle Car of the Year 2012” by Evo Middle East magazine in February this year.
